There is no one way to find funding for your project.  Whether it's donations or investments that you're after, people still need to know the same thing.  Who are you?  What is your project/story?  What's your project's goal?  What is the budget?  What is the timeline?  And, what am I going to gain from this?  The answers all vary but this is what makes your story unique and important.

Last year, you may remember, we produced the TACOathon.  This was an eight-hour fundraising live stream to raise money for two projects: A Boy's Life (short film) and Replaced Series (indie TV pilot).  I, Allison Vanore (Producer of both projects) and Rob Gokee (Music Composer for Replaced) went head-to-head raising money and eating tacos.  Every $50 donated to one of the projects would mean that rep would have to eat a taco.  Now this may seem strange, crazy or just plain stupid HOWEVER that day we raised close to $2,500 total for the two projects.  That's more in one day than any other day we were fundraising.  Why did this work?  It's because Rob and I have a large, supportive network online and offline, Rob also has a reputation for being taco obsessed and we can stream from our home for 8 hours without much technical support.

What do you need to produce a TACOathon?

Graphics to support the show (Taco Count Photos for Twitter and Facebook)

Chat Room Moderator (Krista Vanore)

Twitter and Facebook Updater (Diane Beck)

A Guest Interview per Hour: Vianessa Castanos, Jamie Fishback, Alicia Ying, Robb Padgett, Heath Vinyard, Sheila Daley, Laurie Records, and Eli Benavidez (all of whom have a large social media presence and network to draw from)

Taco Ingredients prepped and ready to cook

Laptop w/ a built-in camera (and internet connection)

UStream Channel

Promotion to your networks at least a week prior

IndieGoGo Campaign

After our show aired we had a few friends and acquaintances try something similar.  One of which Rob actually took part in: The Destructathon (raising money for Hollywood Wasteland).

There's no wrong way or right way to raise money.  They key is, be creative, think out of the box and do what your network, friends and family will find entertaining.  We knew that our networks would pay money to make Rob eat tons of tacos.  And they did.

Here we are, time to jump into Replaced Series pre-production!  We have less than a month to plan our shoot dates and I can't wait!  We are so lucky to be working with such a talented cast and crew and to have so many resources at our disposal!

Firstly, I wanted to announce the newest members of our cast, Brian Majestic and Dave Reaves.  Brian is a co-star on the recently released GOLD: Night of the Zombie King series.  Dave Reaves has been filling his time on the set of Criminal Minds in SWAT gear!

US Marshal BadgeWhat are our biggest tasks at the moment? Locations, Picture Cars, Wardrobe and the possibility of shooting an additional scene or two.

Locations:

We are looking to shoot in Orange County.  Why?  Firstly, our creator, Heath Vinyard, and DP, Jorge Bicer, live in the OC and secondly, permits are a lot cheaper there than in LA.  We are scouting for alley ways and industrial areas - think good chase scene locations.  Our interior locations are locked down already - offices are easy to come by.

Picture Cars:

We are in need of unmarked cop type cars as well as one cop car with lights.  I have a few people looking into this for us and so I'm confident that we'll be able to pull this off.

Wardrobe:

Dealing with cop and US Marshal uniforms are both fun and expensive if you're renting them from a rental house.  We've opted for a combination of both - make some of the items and rent the things we can't make.  Arts and crafts time!

Additional Scenes:

There is an additional location that we can shoot if we are able to come up with the dough and the access.  This additional location will add a huge amount of production value to the show as well as introducing another character - which is yet to be cast.  If we can secure an awesome actress for this role as well as the money to lock down this location, it'll be a go!

Replaced is set to shoot the first 2 episodes March 25 - 27.  We are actively looking for investors and distributors who are interested in seeing the entire show produced.  Please contact Allison Vanore for more information.

Rob Gokee and Allison Vanore have set out to raise money for original series, Replaced, by Heath Vinyard, and for short film, A Boy's Life, by Eli Benavidez.  Why?  Well, why not?!  Allison is producing both projects and Rob is composing music for Replaced so it seems only fitting that we'd find some way to bring tacos into the mix to raise money for this great cause.  Here's the run-down:

On the day of the TACOathon, we make note of the IndieGoGo Campaign totals for each project.  From the time we begin, 12pm Wednesday, January 12, 2011, for every $50 raised for each project (can be multiple donors), the corresponding rep will eat a taco.  The max number of tacos for each project will be 20.  Yes, 20 TACOS!!

Team Replaced: Rob Gokee

Team A Boy's Life: Allison Vanore

Replaced Series

Starring: Jon Briddell, Lisa Catara, Harrison White and John T. Cogan

Creator/Director/Producer: Heath Vinyard

Producer: Allison Vanore

Dir. of Photography/Producer: Jorge Bicer

There is much debate and discussion over the monetization of video content on the web - even just today there were discussions at the NewTeeVee Conference on this topic.  Brands, studios and distribution companies are slowly seeing our medium as a viable way to make money.  Our community is making entertaining, well written and well acted content and our audience is growing.  We're figuring out how to brand, promote and market our shows to our massive global audience.

While we continue to pitch and promote our shows we also need to keep doing what we do best.  Tell stories.  We're committed to telling stories that are unique and inspiring and we aim to build a positive creative force and an engaged fan base behind them.

This week we are launching the IndieGoGo campaign for Replaced Series in order to raise money to shoot pilot episodes of this show.  We have received funds from a private source and so this fund raising campaign will serve as Gap funding to reach our budgetary goal.  We know that with a show like this we can find an audience.

What is Replaced about?  Here's a summary:

Still grieving from the death of his son and the divorce from his wife that ensued from the tragedy, U.S. Marshal Alexander Finche (Jon Briddell) finds himself the target in a genetic conspiracy and framed for a murder he didn't commit.

Alex leads a fugitive case and crosses paths with a former geneticist, but now convicted felon Jesse Sinclair (John T. Cogan), who was once an integral part of the plot against Alex, but has now been cast out of the organization, discredited and humiliated in front of his former peers. Alex and his partner Samantha Baine (Lisa Catara) are on the trail of a man named Darren Anderson, a powerful person with whom Sinclair is very familiar and whom he fears. Sinclair knows about Alex’s past, his divorce, the death of his son, and how his life has spiraled out of control since searching for Anderson.

On the hunt for Alex is an ex-military Special Forces veteran, Carter Bell, who now heads a government sanctioned private military agency. Bell, instrumental in causing the death of Alex’s son, is relentless and will stop at nothing to capture Alex, even killing those that stand in his way. Those that are not killed are simply REPLACED.

Now on the run with his own longtime partner Sam hunting him, Alex must unravel the plot against him, clear his name, and find the elusive architect behind this massive conspiracy that reaches the highest levels he didn't think possible.

With $8,500 in additional funds our team will be able to deliver top notch, exciting drama as seen in Vinyard's End Result and a collection of talent brought together by Casting Director, Laurie Records (SOLO The Series).  Together with Producer, Allison Vanore (SOLO The Series, Hopelessly in June) this team is unstoppable.  This may just be the next successful show on the web.
